Do I really need to have a crack fixed?, or can I just "patch it up"?
Cracks in buildings are common. They can be the symptom of an underlying structural problem, or simply due to "settlement".
Settlement is the process any building can go through over the years of adjusting the the lay of the land.
Cracks due to settlement are unsightly, but may not be a structural risk....even so they're difficult to remove permanently. However, the cause can be more serious, and may need urgent attention.
